Rooted, Growing, and Branching Out in God's Love

Sunday Worship-Virtual Service-August 22, 2021

Dear St. John’s Friends and Family,

Today we begin taking a look at the life and writings of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. I don’t want to say too much about it here, except we will be looking at someone who was extremely courageous in a time of extreme uncertainty. When adversity arose, he held on to his faith and did what he believed was right even to the point of death.

We begin by looking at one of Bonhoeffer’s first sermons. Here we find him laying a foundation of what he calls the essence of Christianity. I believe that it is in this foundation of faith that he finds the courage to stand his ground when he faced death and evil.

According to Bonhoeffer, what was the essence of Christianity?  Let’s find out as we worship together. Maybe we will find strength and hope as we meet Christ and find the courage to stand up to evil and find hope in the midst of uncertainty.

Grace and peace,
Pastor Stephanie
