Hey folks, David and Christie here. Has it ever felt like there’s too much month left at the end of the money? Feel like you’re living paycheck to paycheck and can’t get ahead?

We used to feel that way too, and please know that you are not alone. 70% of Americans live check to check. Look down the row of chairs in church Sunday…that’s seven people in your row.

We are leading another session of Financial Peace University starting in September. FPU is the class we should have all been required to take in high school; in nine weeks, you will learn why and how to save for emergencies, how to finally pay off debt, to create a working spending plan for your money, and how to invest for the future.

How often do you get the opportunity to take a class that changes your life?

Check out this video preview of the class:

Now, I’m not making empty promises. It’s up to you to do the hard work. But FPU shows you, step by step, what to do, how to do it, and why. How to handle money God’s and Grandma’s ways. If you do what the class teaches, you will have more control over your money than ever before.

Nearly 100 people have gone through the class with us at St. John’s. All told, over 4,000,000 people have gone through the class and the average family pays off about $5000 in debt and saves about $3000 in the first 90 days. That $8000 turnaround could be you in a few months! Yes, you will pay a little bit for the class, but it’s a lifetime membership. You can go through it as many times as you want.

Here are quotes from two of our previous students at St. John’s:

You will get so much out of this class if you really apply yourself. At week 9 I have paid off almost $3000 in debt & gotten my $1000 Emergency Fund…I feel more confident about my future. Take advantage of this class & all of the materials!

If you are married and money has caused problems between you and your partner, pay attention. This will truly help you gain peace in your life. Enjoy the ride!

Free child care is provided. For more information on the class that starts September 12th and to sign up – click here.

P.S. Are you interested, but not sure if the class is for you? Call us at (713) 594-0884 and we’ll get you in the first night for free, no obligation.

P.S.S. There is no class on Halloween!

Good Samaritan Ministry Team

by Ingrid Clark

This ministry will be a joint effort between St. Johns UMC and 1st UMC Texas City. We will partner in forming a group to go out and help church members or others in our community, who are unable to help themselves, with yard work or minor home maintenance. This ministry will start with assisting widows and widowers.
Opportunities for volunteers include but are not limited to:
 Photographers
 People to prepare meals
 People to run errands for supplies
 People to perform minor home repairs, yard work, etc.
Frequency: Quarterly or twice a year. To be determined based on need and support.
We will need a scout team to assess jobs prior to work day so we have the necessary tools and
personnel.
John Mize will be the St. John’s rep and Eugene Holt will be the 1st UMC rep and they will work
together to assess the needs that are identified.
Future projects: Single moms, seniors, suggestions from congregation.
Goal is to shoot for first work day on Saturday, June 18th.
Next meeting May 31 @ 6:30 at St. John’s Café and any
one interested in working with this ministry is invited to
attend.
If you would like to volunteer or if you know someone in need of help from this ministry please contact John Mize at jmizer1964@yahoo.com.
