Dear St. John’s Friends and Family,
It’s so hard to stay focused on the moment when we are constantly anticipating what is to come. We are still in the season of Lent, yet we are probably getting ready for Easter with the purchases of Easter eggs and decadent chocolate bunnies. Don’t push into Easter celebration too soon. There is still work to be done in the present moment.
This week we pause to reflect on Jesus’ pain and suffering. We worship a God that knows our pain and suffering intimately through Jesus’ suffering. Sometimes we may feel like no one understands our pain and brokenness. We guard our wounds and shame like hidden treasure. We don’t want anyone to ever know the worst of ourselves. Yet, God knows and God understands. We are never really alone in our suffering. God is with us. God hears our inner cries and shares in our pain. We have a God that never wants to be separated from us, even in suffering.
I know we want to rush through and get to Easter. Yet, there is still a bit more to discover as we follow Jesus to the cross. That doesn’t mean we can’t get ready for the big celebration, though!! There is still much to do! We still need lots of volunteers for Easter Sunday. There will be a training event on Tuesday, March 30 at 6:30 for all volunteers – ushers, greeters, welcome center hosts, and parking lot greeters. Please contact the church office and we will get you in touch with our Hospitality Coordinator. Also, continue to bring candy for the Easter Egg hunt!
For now, let’s just be in the moment. Let’s spend some time with God, surrendering all that we are, even the most painful parts. It is in this space with God that we find acceptance and healing for the rest of the journey.
Grace and peace,
Pastor Stephanie
