Dear St. John’s Friends and Family,
The roots of a plant are the most vital part of the plant, especially for trees. As we discovered last week, a supposed dead stump will put forth tender shoots at the sent of water because the root system is still vital. Yet, if the root system dies, the entire plant will die.
What does it mean for us when we say that we are going to put down roots? Often we mean that we are going to make someplace our home. It means we want to stay for the long haul. In today’s scripture, we find a tree planted by streams of water with roots running deep and it cannot be moved. And the Apostle Paul tells us to be rooted in Christ Jesus. What does it mean to make Jesus our home, where we cannot be moved?
Let’s open our hearts to the movement of God’s Spirit as we prepare to worship. Let your roots run deep into God’s love and experience God’s grace anew as we sing and pray together. God’s goodness abounds all around us! Let’s worship and give God the glory!
Grace and peace,
Pastor Stephanie
