Rooted, Growing, and Branching Out in God's Love

Friday Devotions–May 8, 2020

Thanks to Dianne Ho-Gland for sharing this devotion with our St. John’s family. We hope to share a devotion written by someone in our congregation each Friday.

Comfort in These Uncertain Times

God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
Psalm 46:1

One of the scriptures that is comforting to me at this time is Psalm 46. It lets me know several things about our God in troubled times. First, verses one and two let me know that God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore, I should not fear. He will get me through this difficult time. This is an assurance of hope and mercy to get me through victoriously. He is my shelter from the storm.

In verse seven, l read that God will be with me. I am not alone even isolated in my home. I need to seek Him to feel comfort and peace. In verse 10, I am told to “be still and know that I am God.” Oh, what promises of hope, encouragement, comfort, and peace that gives me. I can find answers in this verse in uncertain times. God will be exalted among the nations and in the earth. He is in control. He calls the shots and asks me not to worry about anything. His word provides the stability for this time if I am faithful. I come boldly before the throne of God to find mercy and grace in this time of need. I will continue praying, keeping alert, and always thanking God.
