Rooted, Growing, and Branching Out in God's Love

Friday Devotions–April 17, 2020

Every Friday, we hope to share a devotional written by one of our St. John’s family. Today’s devotional was written by Jane Hayley.

What Gives You Hope?

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13

There is something about the changing of the seasons and the arrival of spring that brings with it the promise of new growth, new life, new possibilities and new hope. As fellow Texans, we all know our spring only lasts a short time, but I’m hoping that like me, you have been able during this time of social distancing and isolation, to get outdoors and soak in the many signs of spring in your neighborhoods.

I’m enjoying the budding of the trees, the bright sun and cool breezes, the wildflowers, the singing of the birds, the magnolias and redbuds in full bloom. I find it difficult to look at the beauty and perfection of a tulip and not believe in the majesty of nature. All these signs of spring and rebirth are so connected to the Easter Story and new life in Christ promised to Christians everywhere.

In the weeks ahead as you are out and about in your neighborhoods, I hope you will join me in soaking in the sights and sounds of our too-brief springtime. May the beauty of nature renew your desire for the possibilities in your life for new growth, new life, and new hope.

Heavenly Father: In these stressful times, help us pause to soak up the majesty of nature and the beauty of the world before us. Help us not to lose hope for the future but to seek the joy and peace promised to those who trust you. May the beauty of your creations in nature be a benediction for our souls, and may we overflow with hope for the days ahead. Amen.
